Can You Live in a Sexless Marriage?

DivorceChairs

Let’s face it — in a relationship, sex is important to a lot of people. They crave that connection and often equate sex with love.

Love is the foundation for most marriages, but marriage is similar to a business. A business often has many departments, and a marriage often has many aspects to consider. You likely did not marry your spouse solely for the sexual experiences. Besides being a spouse, you may also be a parent. You and your spouse may have investments together. In fact, a marriage may even have a business involved. So would it be wise to file for divorce from your spouse because you stopped having sex on a regular basis?

It depends on the situation. Each marriage is different. If your marriage works well otherwise, then there are some ways to keep your marriage intact. However, if a lack of sex is just one of many problems in your relationship, then it may be a good idea to end the marriage for good.

So what if a sexless marriage is the main problem in your marriage? How do you overcome it? First, keep in mind that you don’t have to be “in love” with your spouse. You probably were as a newlywed. However, feelings change, Relationships ebb and flow. Many people think of love as a drug and they are always chasing that “high.” Couples do not experience the same attraction for their spouse decades down the line. That’s something they need to expect.

Also, love alone does not build a strong relationship. In the past, people married for other reasons, such as money, politics and practical purposes, such as having a companion. Sometimes love actually gets in the way. People are often led to believe that they must feel love toward their spouse all the time. This is what is causing divorce rates to increase. It’s best to marry for a purpose rather than marry for love.

While it may be frustrating to be in a sexless marriage, you don’t need to end the entire partnership. There are options. If there are children involved, you can continue to stay married and focus on a parenting marriage. You can also opt for a marriage where you stay married, but live in separate residences. You can also consider an open marriage. In all these situations, you can stay married but date others and even engage in sexual relationships. You and your spouse can consider other creative options.
