Is Laziness a Reason for Divorce?

Div_alcohol

When you think of the reasons why married couples divorce, the first things that come to mind are probably infidelity, financial issues and dishonesty. While these are common reasons, one of the biggest ones is actually laziness.

This is true in that many marriages, people don’t want to put in the required work. They just think marriages basically run by themselves. They don’t. Marriages require a lot of work.

Laziness can occur in several ways. Laziness was the reason why reality TV star Kristin Cavallari and former football player Jay Cutler ended their marriage.  The couple, who had been married for seven years, recently announced their divorce. Cavallari stated her reasons for the divorce, claiming that Cutler was “unmotivated” and “lazy.” Even when Cutler was playing for the Miami Dolphins, he showed a lack of enthusiasm and over time, Cavallari grew frustrated with this. The couple have three young children.

When one person is motivated, it is hard for them to be married to someone who is the opposite. It can be frustrating if you’re out working and doing things while your spouse stays at home and watches TV. Ambition is an admirable trait and people lose respect for their partner when they are no longer ambitious.

A person may also find their spouse lazy if they don’t help around the house. This is a common complaint among stay-at-home moms who cook, clean and take care of the house. Many husbands expect their wives to take care of the homemaking and child rearing, but women aren’t on board with taking care of all these duties. Even mothers who don’t work outside the home are exhausted because their husbands don’t do their fair share. They think all they have to do is work outside the home and pay the bills. A marriage is much more than that, and working at home is not as easy as it seems.

To deal with a lazy spouse, you must communicate with them. Let them know how their laziness feels. If they don’t want to work, why not? What is holding them back? Would making a list be helpful? Let them know how their laziness makes you feel, such as the fact that you are utterly exhausted every day while they sit on the couch and watch TV or hang out with friends. Be specific.

Seek Legal Help

In a marriage, laziness can rear its head in many ways. Maybe your spouse doesn’t want to work. Perhaps he or she doesn’t want to work on the marriage or help out around the house. When one person is having to do everything, it can lead to extreme resentment and frustration, making divorce inevitable.
